piddlin' stuff.....Robert Webber who played Wes in this episode of 'The Retired Gun.' He has appeared in many things. He played Brig. Gen. Denton in "The Dirty Dozen." He was a veteran actor and had been in the business over 40 years. He had a re-occurring role in "Moonlighting" as Alexander Hayes,
Maddie's father. He was Juror #12 in 12 Angry Men.
John Anderson played Owny in 'The Retired Gun.' Now here is a familiar face. How many times did he star on the show? 'The Silent Knife' as Myrtle, owner of the Hardware store and 'The Executioner' as Ruth. She also appeared with Chuck in "Geronimo" as Mrs. Burns.

Jack Kruschen appeared in 'The Retired Gun' as Clyde Bailey. He was the one who Lucas told to put his gun away. 'One Went to Denver' as Sammy. Remember, he's the one who started the fire in the hotel room to distract the bank being robbed? He also was one of the many actors to play Doc Burrage. He played the Doc in 'Trail of Hate' & 'Baranca.' "Will the real Doc Burrage please stand up?"
He was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in "The Apartment" (1960). He has appeared in many of Movies such as "The Unsinkable Molly Brown"―"McLintock!"―"Follow That Dream"―"Lover Come Back"―"Where the Boys Are"―"The Bellboy"―"The Benny Goodman Story"

The great baseball player Duke Snider, played Wallace, one of the Bailey gang in the episode of 'The Retired Gun.' There were other baseball player buddies of Chuck that also appeared in "The Rifleman" ~ Don Drysdale played in 'Skull' as a gunfighter named Warren. Don Drysdale also appeared with Chuck in "Cowboy in Africa" as Fairchild in the 'Search & Destroy' episode. Walter O'Malley played a doctor in an episode of "Branded," 'The Bar Sinister.' In 1957, Phil Wrigley sold both the team and Wrigley Field to Walter O'Malley, the Brooklyn Dodgers' owner, for $3,000,000 and the rights to the Dodgers' Texas League franchise in Fort Worth.

'The Retired Gun'― when the newly married couple first arrive at Lucas' ranch, we see them drive past the rear door of the McCain house, as if the road from North Fork winds past the side of the house. Never seen before or after, right? Thanks Rob!

he got out of his wagon. Owny threw a coin on the ground challenging Wes that he was the better man. Wes told him to save his money for a good funeral. "Strong words for a man that's taken to hidin' behind a woman's skirt," scoffed Owny. Marshal Torrance interrupted the near argument and Owny told the Marshal he'd only come over to see his ole buddy, Wes. "You've seen him, what's keepin' you," barked Micah, and Owny was on his way. Micah inquired why Wes and Clare were in North Fork. "We're hoping to stay," said Clare. Micah left her know quickly he preferred they didn't. Clare assured Micah he was mistaken about her husband. Wes had promised her - he was through being a gunfighter. Micah wondered aloud how long Wes would be able to keep that promise.
d I knew the woman. "Clare, Clare Wheatly!" "It's not Wheatly any more," said Clare, "I've been Mrs. Wes Carney for almost a month." I gave her a big hug. She introduced me to her husband, Wes Carney. Clare noticed Mark on the porch and moved to give him a greeting and a hug. Mark was puzzled at this stranger embracing him and I explained Clare was his mother's dearest friend; they'd grown up together. I asked why they were in this neck of the woods and she told me of their wish to settle in the area. She'd had heard I was here and was hoping I could help them get settled. Clare wondered if I knew of Wes' reputation. I invited them into the house to talk things over.

Being so unhappy he soon lost respect for himself and naturally when that happened he soon lost the respect of his wife. "That's a very pretty story Lucas. What'd you do make it up?" blasted Clare. I left it at that and headed out the door to help Micah.
