Chuck Connors
The Golf Course

Escape from Hollywood

April 30, 1967 – Gene Handsaker’s Palm Springs APN story on actors at Palms Springs

“A place to get away from the hurry, worry, tension and ridiculousness of Hollywood” is Chuck Connors’ description of Palm Springs.

Here Chuck plays golf at the Canyon Country Club, one of 21 golf Courses in that area.

“The Rifleman,” Chuck Connors & his actress wife, Kamala, lived right on the course, as did Fess Parker, aka Davy Crockett.

This is from my collection and is an original press photo.

Celebrity golf tournaments were gaining in popularity back then. Frank Sinatra was one of the first to organize a golf tournament and his annual celebrity invitational began here. Chuck Connors held a tournament there for over 15 years.
