Mark's Torn Hat!
We were curious to why Johnny had alternated
a "good" hat and a damaged hat in some episodes.
The first sign of damage to Mark's hat was in the first season. You can also see damage off & on through the second & third season. The fourth season you can see a very bad torn hate. But the fifth season Mark get's a "new" hat!

3rd season episode #78 'Woman from Hog Ridge' 3rd season - different hat →

5th season episode #166 'Old Man Running' Marks got a new hat
So why did the hat vary from episode to episode?

I had loaded all these episodes into Shutterfly, but darn it, the top of some of the hat is cut off in some pictures.
Oh well, just enjoy these great pictures of Mark with his hat on, torn, or not and even new.
