During this scene watch the close ups of Lucas and Artemis very carefully. I think their tea cups are the same pattern—but the colors don’t match. See how the pattern appears lighter on Lucas’ cup? So how many dinnerware sets did the McCain household own? Maybe Lucas’ was red and Artemis’ was blue. Blue’s closer to black, so I think it would appear darker than the red cup. Also, notice how Lucas is holding the cup with his left hand. But in the wide shot, he sets it down on the table with his right hand. Also, notice how Lucas is holding the cup with his left hand. I thought it was funny that Lucas didn’t take his hat off before eating at the table. I remember a few times where he told Mark to remove his hat. The Safeguard and The Wrong Man are two examples. Also, when they met the “preacher’s wife” in A Time For Singing, Lucas just took Mark’s hat off himself! When Mark was standing by the hotel dining room table in Spiked Rifle, Lucas took Mark’s hat off and placed his and Mark’s on the nearby hat/coat stand—without either saying a word. Maybe in Stranger At Night it was a mistake and Chuck didn’t think about it until he was already seated and didn’t want to ruin the take, so he just kept it on?
