"The Rifleman"
episode #102
March 21, 1961
Directed by Ida Lupino

A Trail-Blazer for Women - Ida Lupino was the female to direct a film noir (The Hitchhiker). She is the only woman to have both acted and directed an episode of the Twilight Zone. She was one of the first directors to deal with topics such as rape, pregnancy outside of marriage, and bigamy. She was also one of the first directors to have actors and actresses of all ethnicities without it being a big deal. Thanks Dana & Deneen!

Ida Lupino - The Rifleman

Ida Lupino was an English-American film actress and director and a pioneer among women filmmakers.  She was one of the founders of Four Star Productions along with Hollywood actors Dick Powell, David Niven and Charles Boyer.

Its not the size Chuck Connors, star of The Rifleman, has been taking orders from a woman (other than his wife).  It was all in a days work for Ida Lupino, who recently directed an episode on the series. Connors said, Its nice to have a woman around the ranch house.
