Jimmie is now 86+ years old. He was born in
Kansas in November 28, 1925. His father worked their farm with draft
horses. Jimmie was always around the horses when he was a little boy,
and had his own pony to ride, but he was too small to drive the working
teams. He was only 10 years old when the family left the farm because of
the depression in the 1930's. His family migrated to Newhall, California
in 1936.
After Jimmie graduated from high school he served two years in the Army
Air Corp, then performed for two seasons in circus wild-west shows,
travelling by truck and railroad. Meanwhile Jimmie became acquainted
with many of the cowboys and horsemen in the Newhall area who worked in
the motion picture industry. Through these connections he was able to
become a member of the Screen Extras Guild and the Screen Actors Guild.
He started working in pictures in 1949 or 1950.
Jimmie retired from the motion picture industry in 1987, then "worked a
retirement job" driving the Wells Fargo stagecoach in parades and bank
openings for the next 13 years.
Outside of the movie work: In the 1950's, when the Santa Anita and Hollywood Park horse-racing
tracks used draft horses to pull the starting gate, Jimmie drove that
team of four Belgians. He also drove the fancy carriage pulled by the
team of four high stepping Hackney's which transported the judges to and
from their posts.
In 1955 Jimmie was hired at Disneyland to drive the horse-drawn vehicles
on Main Street. On Disneyland's opening day he drove the first
horse-drawn street car down Main Street to "open the show."
He appeared with Chuck in Guns of Paradise -
A Matter of Honor as a
Driver.
Jimmie also appeared in Knots Landing
